What’s in the price

A compressor replacement is not a part swap. Done correctly it includes:

3. The replacement compressor, matched to nameplate, refrigerant, and application.
4. A new liquid-line filter drier, plus an oversized suction-line drier on a burnout, and a system flush where indicated.
5. Deep vacuum to 500 microns with a standing decay test to prove the system is dry and leak-free.
6. Charge by weight, then superheat and subcooling verification and a run-in acid recheck on burnouts.

Leave out steps 4–6 and you have a “cheap” compressor job that fails again — often within a season, because acid and moisture left in the system attack the new compressor.

The diagnosis that saves the job

A compressor that will not start is not automatically dead. A $40 run capacitor, a $90 contactor, a seized condenser fan driving head pressure to locked-rotor, or a large overcharge can all produce the same symptom. Isolating the compressor and checking winding resistance and to-ground takes 20–30 minutes and routinely saves owners thousands. Insist on it before authorizing a compressor.
